We’re excited to announce a new series of interactive online book clubs, bringing together readers to discuss three 2020 Award- and Prize-winning books. Co-hosted on Zoom by our Prize judges, along with our Director Molly Rosenberg, these book clubs will celebrate some of the last year’s finest writing, from poetry to memoir to fiction.
This series also supports independent bookshops and publishers, who have been drastically affected by the ongoing pandemic. We’ve partnered with UK-wide stores to offer a book-and-ticket option, making it easy for you to get a copy of the book before attending.
The book clubs are:
Wednesday 29 July, 7pm – The RSL Ondaatje Prize Book Club
Discussing A Portable Paradise by Roger Robinson, hosted by 2020 judge and poet Pascale Petit. Books sold by Peepal Tree Press.
Wednesday 26 August, 7pm – The RSL Christopher Bland Prize Book Club
Discussing Clean by Michele Kirsch, hosted by 2020 judge and author Sara Collins. Book-and-ticket option supported by Pages of Hackney.
Wednesday 8 September, 7pm – The Encore Award Book Club
Discussing Throw Me to the Wolves by Patrick McGuinness, hosted by 2020 judge and author Nikita Lalwani. Book-and-ticket option supported by Book-ish.
The book clubs are free for Members, £5 for non-Members, and each book-and-ticket option is available in the event pages. To become a Member and join these, and other events, for free, go to bit.ly.
As a charity, the team at the RSL is working hard for the advancement of literature, even in times of social distancing. Along with our commitment to paying the writers hosting the book clubs, we have included a small charge for non-Members to make this work possible.
