Andrew Kidd worked for 20 years in publishing, at Penguin and Picador/Macmillan, where he published numerous prize-winning authors, and then as a literary agent for Aitken Alexander. In 2013 he co-founded the Folio Prize, which he continues to chair. It was the first book prize open to all genres and the first to be overseen by an academy of writers; it also runs a celebrated mentorship scheme with First Story. In 2014 he co-founded Alexi, an award-winning book discovery app, and in 2019 he became CEO of Arvon, the UK’s leading creative writing charity.
Fellows are nominated by peers and elected by our Council of writers – our governing Board. Being elected a Fellow of the RSL is a lifetime honour. This role gives them the opportunity to support other writers, readers and the future of literature. The RSL connects writers in the Fellowship to one another, and to a wider readership.
