Elected: 2024
Sanchita is the owner of the Children’s Bookshop in Muswell Hill, which was awarded the double accolade of Children’s Bookseller of the Year and Book Retailer of the Year at the British Book Awards 2024. It is the oldest running children’s bookshop in the country. Sanchita has previously been a judge for the Costa Book Award, the Branford Boase Award, the British Book Awards, and The Week Junior Awards, amongst others. She was a Rising Star of 2018, and a Bookseller Bookshop Hero in 2020. She sits on the Children’s Laureate Steering Group, the Children’s Booksellers Group for the BA, and is the co-founder of Sail Fest, an organisation dedicated to promoting South Asian Children’s Writers and Illustrators.
Fellows are nominated by peers and elected by our Council of writers – our governing Board. Being elected a Fellow of the RSL is a lifetime honour. This role gives them the opportunity to support other writers, readers and the future of literature. The RSL connects writers in the Fellowship to one another, and to a wider readership.
