Jill Dawson is the author of ten novels including The Language of Birds — the story of the nanny murdered in the Lucan household in 1974 — The Crime Writer (winner, East Anglian Book of the Year), Fred & Edie (shortlisted for The Whitbread and Orange Prize) and Watch Me Disappear (longlisted for the Orange Prize). The Great Lover, about the poet Rupert Brooke, was a best-seller and Richard and Judy Summer Read. Lucky Bunny, the life of East End thief and good-time-girl Queenie, was winner of a Fiction Uncovered Award. The Tell-Tale Heart was long-listed for the Folio prize. In addition, she has edited six anthologies and won prizes for short stories and an Eric Gregory prize for poetry in 1992.
Fellows are nominated by peers and elected by our Council of writers – our governing Board. Being elected a Fellow of the RSL is a lifetime honour. This role gives them the opportunity to support other writers, readers and the future of literature. The RSL connects writers in the Fellowship to one another, and to a wider readership.
