Sarah Hosking founded and for twenty years ran the Hosking Houses Trust which gave reality to Virginia Woolf’s 1928 polemic that ‘a woman needs a room of her own and money if she is to write’. Having trained at art college in 1960s, she worked in arts sponsorship and exhibitions before specialising in design and appointment of hospital premises, co-authoring Healing the Hospital Environment (Routledge 1999). Since 2002 the HHT has offered a retreat and sometimes financial support for women writers and, recently, artists and musicians.
