Syima Aslam

Elected: 2019

Syima Aslam is founder and Director of the Bradford Literature Festival (BLF). In just five years she has established BLF as one of the most innovative and inspirational festivals in the UK.

BLF meets the urgent need for a public space in which the extraordinary times we live in can be explored, interrogated and better understood, while acknowledging and celebrating that which is beautiful and hopeful in the world. The Festival programme celebrates diversity, empathy, and artistic excellence and provides a platform to marginalised voices.

Syima’s commitment to young people and her passionate belief that education has the power to change lives, are the inspiration behind the achievements of the festival.

Fellowship Election Process

Fellows are nominated by peers and elected by our Council of writers – our governing Board. Being elected a Fellow of the RSL is a lifetime honour. This role gives them the opportunity to support other writers, readers and the future of literature. The RSL connects writers in the Fellowship to one another, and to a wider readership.
