- This contest is administered in all respects by the Royal Society of Literature (RSL) in connection with the RSL Jerwood Poetry Awards.
- Submissions are welcomed from any person residing in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
- To be considered, all work entered into the contest must be written in response to the original work ‘The Clearing’, or one of the following prompts associated with the contest:
- Head to heart
- The closing of things
- Common tongue
- Roots
- At the centre
- By submitting your entry, you agree to your work and name (unless submitted anonymously) being shared with third parties, including all partner organisations, and included in a virtual map which will be published on our website.
- If your entry is selected, you agree to your work and name being shared in our monthly newsletter, delivered to RSL Fellows, Members and newsletter subscribers.
- Plagiarism or work using generative AI is not accepted. The poem submitted must be the entrant’s own work.
- The RSL’s decision whether to include a poem in the virtual map will be final. Further feedback will not be provided.
- The RSL will not be responsible for any entries received with inaccurate contact details provided by entrants.
- The RSL will maintain confidentiality of all entrants’ contact details.
- Only digital entries will be accepted, submitted via the online form.
- By submitting your entry to this contest, you accept these terms and conditions.
Entry to the contest will remain open until 5pm on Monday 31 August.
