Autumn 2015 saw the launch of Freeman’s, a new literary journal from America, edited by John Freeman, former editor of Granta magazine. Marking the publication of the first issue, whose theme is “arrival”, three contributors read from and talk about their pieces, and reflect on the arrivals that have marked and defined their own lives.

Tahmima Anam was born in Bangladesh, and grew up in Paris, New York and Bangkok. Her first novel, A Golden Age, was best first book winner of the Commonwealth Writers Prize. Her second, The Good Muslim, was nominated for the 2011 Man Asian Literary Prize. Michael Salu, born in Britain of Nigerian heritage, is a creative director, designer, writer and illustrator who has won numerous awards for his achievements in the field of design. Kamila Shamsie is a Pakistani novelist living in England. Of her five novels, Burnt Shadows was shortlisted for the Orange Prize, and A God in Every Stone – described by Jeanette Winterson as ‘a page-turner that is also a literary delight’ – for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction.
