Ingredients for a Lockdown

Owing to immuno suppressant medication, I spent most of lockdown shielding, but was lucky enough to have the escape and sanity of walking in the local green spaces of South East London: Crystal Palace Park, Mayow Park, Alexandra Rec. and Sydenham Wells Park. I did however finally succumb to making banana bread!

In lockdown we’ve become consumed with food

in the hope of deflection from our mood.

What to undertake with your hoarded glut,

without increasing your widening gut.

Groceries sanitised with obsession,

your OCD life-saving regression.

TV hosts corpse decorating doughnuts,

endless How to do your own haircuts.

To sweeten the thoughts of how many dead,

pursuit of the perfect banana bread.

While your absent family cease to thrive,

is your sour dough starter still alive?

Boasting ingredients for a recipe

provides some temporary therapy.
