I Could Hear Emma

By: Ritwiza Asthana

About The Poem

The poem is about the peculiarity of living during the last year and a half, and how it has connected each one of us in a life altering way. Separated as we are from each other, it is also in each other that we now find our solace. Our community.

The Poem

I could hear Emma wail through our thin
walls
As could you, I think, when I cried in
anguish
At the absurdity of it all
Did we come together or
Did we fall apart?
Did I feel your hands holding me
Or did I just imagine it all?
What a catastrophic time to live in
And what a way to feel alive
For years, we were “just” neighbours
Now, we are soldiers bonded in strife.
