Literature Matters: RSL 200 – David Mitchell
We are taking bookings for RSL members and guest tickets only. For public ticket visit southbankcentre.co.uk.
From Autumn 2020, the RSL will celebrate its bicentenary with Literature Matters: RSL 200, an event series bringing together some of the world’s best-known writers to explore the impact of literature on their lives.
Celebrating the power of music to connect across divides, define an era and thrill the soul, Utopia Avenue is a multi-faceted tale of dreams, drugs, love, madness and grief; of stardom’s wobbly ladder and fame’s Faustian pact; and of the collision between idealism and reality as the Sixties drew to a close.
David Mitchell was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2013. He is the author of the novels Ghostwritten, number9dream, Cloud Atlas, Black Swan Green, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, The Bone Clocks and Slade House. Twice shortlisted for the Booker Prize, he has won the John Llewellyn Rhys, Geoffrey Faber Memorial and South Bank Show Literature Prizes, among others, and been named a Granta Best Young British Novelist. In 2018, he won the Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence.
