Welcome to RSL vs Book Slam, where London’s leading literary juke joint brings together writers and readers for a high-energy night of page and stage and established stars rub shoulders with some of the hottest new talent.
First up is “Love and Legacy”, which sees actor turned award-winning writer, Paterson Joseph, on the influence of James Baldwin, bestselling author Dorothy Koomson on creating thrill-seeking, plot- twisting hi-octane thrillers, and the Booker Prize-winning legend that is Bernardine Evaristo revisit “Mr Loverman”, her beloved 2013 novel which has lately been adapted to brilliant effect on the BBC.
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome our friend and comrade Eska to the line-up, a genre-defying “voice painter”, plus the acclaimed poet-playwright Yomi Ṣode – prepare to be picked up and blown away.
We’ve also got wordsmith and sound artist Belinda Zhawi turning the tables on the turntables, an artist-run drop-in literary craft table, books on sale, and more surprises up our sleeves.

This event is a collaboration between the RSL and Book Slam, a brand new series of events celebrating the written and spoken word with a mixed bill of writers and performers. Each night will be based on a particular theme and based in a different venue.
